Judy Peacock

Judy Peacock, a master gardener since 2010.  Judy grew up in Norcross when it was still a small, rural town and spent many days playing in the fields and woods. Her mother was a wonderful gardener and could grow almost anything from a cutting. She taught Judy to identify trees and plants. As a child Judy would gather flowers and create small arrangements of violets and daffodils. Judy attended UGA and majored in Art Education. She loved Botany classes and spent a lot of time in the Founders Garden and the university greenhouses. After graduation, she rented a cottage in Sandy Springs in the middle of 40 acres, exploring the creek and woods, identifying wildflowers and started her first herb garden. Later, Judy bought a house and again grew herbs and began taking care of the plants that were part of the old garden on the property. She began to make flower arrangements for friends’ weddings and work events. After working full time for 28 years, Judy retired and became a Master Gardener and now shares her love of plants and the natural world through her volunteer work with the North Fulton Master Gardeners.

Judy’s Topics

A Walk in the Woods with Spring Flowers – Observing the Beauty of Nature (Co-Presented with Carole MacMullan) – Nothing is more refreshing to the spirit than a hike through the forest on a cool spring day, breathing in the fresh air and observing the sights and sounds of the plants and animals. North Fulton Master Gardeners Carole MacMullan and Judy Peacock will tell us about a variety of spring wildflowers, when to observe their peak blooming time, their growth requirements, and share with us places we can visit locally to experience the beauty and enjoyment of wildflowers. (PowerPoint presentation; 1 hour)

Creating My Pollinator Garden– Learn how you can make a positive impact by helping our local pollinators. This lecture will review how to design a pollinator garden using native plants to create habitat and food sources for our native pollinators.(PowerPoint presentation; 1 hour in length)

Flower Arranging – I love flowers and enjoy bringing them into my home and arranging them. What I find fun, is to purchase a few fresh flowers from the grocery store and combine them with flowers and greenery from my yard. I enjoy sharing tips about what you can find in your own garden or yard to use and create a beautiful arrangement. I also like to find unusual containers to utilize. Especially if you are taking an arrangement to a friend and don’t want to “break the bank” on a container you will never see again. And if no flowers are available, I will visit a plant nursery and use live plants in a container that can later be planted in the garden or an outdoor container.

Decorating your Mailbox for the Holidays – Learn to use natural greenery from your own yard or garden to decorate your mailbox for the holidays (Demonstration presentation, 45 minutes in length)

Creating Captivating Container Gardens – Demonstrates how to select plants for both containers to use in the sun and in the shade (Demonstration presentation, 45 minutes to 1 hour in length)
