The Native Plant Garden adjacent to the Teaching Museum Greenhouse is completing its second year. the third year is when perennials begin to thrive. Currently, there are 45 varieties of perennials with a need for more to increase plant variety and density. In the spring, we will move some plants so they will thrive better in what has turned out to be a very sunny plot as we add more. Many of the plants were donated by members. So, if there is a theme, it would be \u201cOur Favorite Native Perennials\u201d for a sunny spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 A plant list is available if you would like to consider donating a plant. Plants over 3 1\/2\u2019 tall will be placed in a new bed along with others that are too large for the current bed. These include \u201cHelianthus tuberosus\u201d Jerusalem Artichoke , \u201cVernonia gigantea\u201d New York Ironweed and other terrific plants we have that are too large for this garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024 we will develop the garden into demonstration garden by adding identification markers and signage. We will explore providing QR codes on markers to provide a link to detailed information about each plant. This can include nomenclature, identifying characteristics, historical and current uses as well as pictures of the plant in various seasons. We hope to continue to develop the garden so it is available to students, teachers and the general public so that they may become more familiar with native plants and appreciate them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
