Plant a Vegetable in a Container

Children will plant small vegetables or herbs in recycled containers. They can take them home and watch them grow in the container or transplant into their home garden.

Wildflower Seed Balls

Learn about native plants and wildflowers and how they help provide habitat for birds, butterflies and other wildlife. then get ready to get your hands dirty as you make a messy, dirty seed ball to take home and plant.

Grow a Hairy Caterpillar or Grassy Head

Participants will plant wheat grass inside a caterpillar they will construct out of cloth and sand or compost. They can decorate the caterpillar to give it personality and then take it home and wait for the grass 'hair' to grow. This 'hair' can be trimmed for better growth. They will learn about planting and watching seed grow.

Moss Terrariums

Participants will construct a terrarium to take home and nurture. They will plant the terrarium with moss and personalize. They will learn about moss and terrarium environments.

Lettuce Bowls - Grow Your Own Salad

"Lettuce" be healthy. Lettuce is a fast growing vegetable that does well in cooler weather in Georgia. It also does well in containers. Come to the market and learn about cool season vegetables as you plant lettuce seeds in a container to take home.

Bird Feeders

Come help get the birds ready for fall by making a bird seed feeder. Participants will have an opportunity create bird feeders out of materials such as popsicle sticks, cardboard tubes and pine cones. This will be our last children's activity for the season.
